NTSC Sports Titles You Probably Didn’t Know Are Worth More Than 25 Cents!
Â
I don’t want this article to be about the obvious games that are worth buckets of money such as Nintendo World Championship or NBA Elite 11.
When taking estimated values for the games listed, remember that condition is an enormous factor when it comes to price. I don’t want to list the “most expensive” or “rarest titles,” because we’ve all seen plenty of posts on those. I want to share a bit of knowledge on some titles that I never would have imagined fetched higher than $5! Take note that in December a game may fetch $100 and in February only $50, so prices are always fluctuating. With retro titles, there usually isn’t a crazy drop in price because these days we are seeing an ever-higher price increase due to popular demand brought on by years of nostalgia. Without further ado, here are 10 North American-released sports titles you might not know are currently worth more than 25 cents:
Backbreaker:Â Released for Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3. This is a football game published by 505 games. The Xbox 360 version of this title tends to sell for more than its PS3 counterpart. A complete copy for PS3 sells for roughly $25, while a copy for Xbox 360 sells for about $35.
Â
Disney Sports Basketball:Â Released for the Nintendo GameCube and Nintendo Game Boy Advance. This has a great cover featuring the iconic Mickey Mouse driving the ball to the basket. The game offers teams with your favorite Disney characters playing against each other. This Nintendo exclusive game is worth approximately $25 loose or $200 complete for GBA, and up to $800 or more complete in box for GameCube.
Â
Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast: Released for the original Microsoft Xbox and Sony PlayStation 2. Most people wouldn’t even pick this up for $1 at a yard sale. A complete copy around $240 for Xbox and for PS2 about $50. That is quite a difference and hopefully we’ll dig up the story behind that because usually PS2 titles run a little higher than OG Xbox…stay tuned!
Â
NCAA Basketball 10: Released for Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3. Featuring one of my favorite basketball players on the front cover is Blake Griffin. The last NCAA Basketball game ever released, hence it’s higher price tag. A complete copy on either system sells for roughly $80.
Â
R.C. Pro-AM II:Â Released for Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). A loose cartridge of this bad boy has an outstanding value of around $100. Although, the first game only goes for around $10 to $15.
Â
College Hoops NCAA 2K8:Â Released for PS2, PS3, and Xbox 360. Many titles can exist for different systems and vary greatly in value. This one is a great example. This title for PS3 and 360 are about $80 complete in box, but is worth around $12 complete for the PS2. This was the last 2K NCAA Basketball game ever made, not to be confused with NCAA Basketball 10, which had a different publisher (EA).
Â
Cyberbike Cycling Sports: Released for Nintendo Wii. A complete copy of this game can range between $200 and $300! Isn’t it strange how a game you’d expect to see marked at a local game store for $2.99 actually does not require that decimal? You just never know with some of these games, so keep an eye out for these elusive sports titles.
Â
V-Rally 3 NTSC Version: Released for Nintendo Gameboy Advance. It isn’t crazy expensive with a loose cartridge going for around $80 and complete nearly $200. This game is hard to come by, or maybe just hard to notice? I had never looked twice at this game until I bought a big GBA game lot and realized that this game was worth a decent chunk of change! One tip for telling the difference between the PAL version and NTSC version of this game – on the PAL version, the Nintendo seal of quality is located in the upper left corner.
Â
International Superstar Soccer 2000: Released for Nintendo 64 and Gameboy Color. When it comes to Nintendo games, many people think Zelda, Mario, Pokémon. Those titles will always be in demand, however they are not hard to find. There are a lot of rare titles out there that are harder to hunt down. If you see an unfamiliar title on your journey in life, take the 2 minutes to look it up online. The N64 cartridge of this game has a higher price tag than her GBC counterpart, although for a soccer title, neither go dirt cheap. A good label cartridge only copy of this on N64 can fetch anywhere about $80 to $120.
Mutant Hockey League: Released for Sega Genesis. Complete - $130, Loose $75:Â I personally love the idea of a Mutant Hockey League, taking a professional sport and just tossing in mutants! This title reminds me of the episode on Futurama where the Professor (Nobody calls me that!) develops a team of mutant basketball players to compete against the Globetrotters. He inadvertently caused time to skip, but nonetheless, a great episode! A copy of this gem will cost around $75 for the cartridge only.
Bass Masters 2000 (Gray Cartridge) (Nintendo 64) – Complete $250, Cartridge only $60: Ahh, fishing. Nothing better than waking up at 4 a.m. and sitting awkwardly in a small boat with the cousin you got stuck with. 6 hours, 10 beers, and 0 fish later you have fishing! Well, in video games you can avoid the hassle of worms, gutting, and any extra fishing involved activity. This copy of the grey variant of Bass Masters 2000 is about $60 for just the cartridge and nearly $250 complete. There is also a blue colored variant that sells around the $15 range, this one looks cooler to me (fan of colored cartridges) but it was more widely produced than the sought after grey cartridge.
Happy gaming! Feel free to comment with your own thoughts or questions.Â
